DirectX 11 At the Gamefest 08 event in Seattle, Microsoft presented Directx 11 to the public. It contained some mainly scheduled characteristics, such as GPGPU support (DirectCompute), tessellation support, which increased multi-threading support to help video game developers in developing games which would better apply multi-core processors. Directx 11 runs on the Windows Vista and Windows 7, as well as future Windows operating systems. Parts of the new API such as multi-threaded resource handling can be supported on Directx 9/10/10.1-class hardware. Besides, hardware tessellation and Shader Model 5.0 require Directx 11 supporting hardware too. Therefore, Microsoft unveiled Technical Preview. Directx 11 is a strict update version of Directx 10.1 with all hardware and API characteristics of version 10.1 are reserved. Generally, new features are seldom added until it is necessary to expose new functionality.
